We keep coming back to understanding

If an answer reveals a gap, return to that step, open a different explanation and try again. Then ask your child to explain the idea or apply it to a fresh example. Our approach is to keep working on the learning, rather than treating a finished page as proof of mastery. Parents guide that decision; the portal does not automatically certify understanding.

Four different signals

  • Practice feedback: short choices give immediate feedback and allow retries.
  • Written and practical work: saved responses show how a learner explains or applies an idea.
  • Parent review: marking guidance helps parents give feedback on submitted work.
  • Completion: a tick records that a session was marked finished, not that it was mastered.

Weekly and monthly checks

Weekly checks follow the relevant subject sessions. Month checks are intended after the Week 4 learning. Close worked examples and hints when checking independent understanding, unless a question explicitly asks for supplied reading or reference material. Record any other help used.

What to do when a child struggles

Identify the particular step: vocabulary, remembering a method, interpreting the question or explaining an answer. Return to that example, try a similar question together and revisit a fresh question later. Avoid treating the same memorised answer as evidence of new understanding.

A useful Friday review

  • Choose one piece of work your child can explain without prompting.
  • Find one repeated difficulty across the week.
  • Agree one small revision task and a later check.
  • Keep successful work as well as mistakes so progress is visible.

Preparing for external tests

Asta’s checks help families decide what to practise next. They are internal learning activities rather than external examinations or accredited qualifications.
